Qualification Information
A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system to map, model, query and analyse large quantities of data within a single database according to location. It gives the power to create maps, integrate information, present powerful ideas and develop effective solutions by bringing together information from multiple sources. The OCN NI Geographical Information Systems Qualifications will help increase awareness of GIS among the business sector. Learners will understand the importance of location and how it can economically enhance businesses. Learners will also realise how the benefits of GIS such as informed decision making can increase profitability and efficiency of businesses. In order to achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete a minimum of 12 credits. This includes both mandatory units for a total of 8 credits, plus a minimum of 4 credits from the optional units.
