South Eastern Regional College (SERC) continues to develop successful partnerships with businesses across Northern Ireland. SERC recently announced their new partnership with Calor Bio LPG renewable gas at the college’s Holywood Campus Zero Carbon Centre. This fuels a water heating system and is available for students on SERC’s professional skills courses to learn and practise on real-life technology.
Stephen McGreevy, Lead Business Manager, Business Services at SERC commented on the Nett Zero approaches and the OCN NI courses:
“The Sustainability Team at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is a prominent leader in Northern Ireland’s Further Education sector, specialising in Green Technologies, Retrofitting, Sustainability, and Environmentalism. The team stays up to date on technological advancements from Net Zero innovators, positioning the college and its students advantageously in these rapidly growing fields. They equip learners with the skills needed through new bespoke qualifications platform by OCN, to give them the knowledge, skills and tools to meet carbon zero targets.
Since 2021, the sustainability team has been at the forefront of developing technologies and courses that support the decarbonisation journey, aiming to achieve significant progress by 2025 and continue through 2050. The team has enabled SERC to be a leading institution in green skills, decarbonisation, retrofitting, green technologies, and Net Zero.
The SERC team is dedicated to fostering green skills through the newly created and implemented Level 5 OCN qualifications in Retrofit Coordination and Green Technology, launched in January 2024. These OCN Level 5 courses are unique in Northern Ireland and the first in the UK to offer qualifications at this level in this field. Additionally, the completion of the OCN Level 5 Retrofit Extended Diploma course allows successful candidates to become retrofit coordinators, making it one of only two available in the UK, and recognised by the BSI (British Standards Institute).”
