Helen McCarron, from Clanrye Group, has been named Inspiring Tutor/Teacher of the Year at the 2026 OCN NI Learning Endeavour Awards, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to supporting learners and helping them achieve their full potential.

Since beginning her teaching career in 2000, Helen has dedicated herself to empowering learners through education. After gaining her PGCE, she spent 20 years working as a full-time history teacher before pursuing a career change into horticulture.

Today, Helen is a tutor on the Skills for Life and Work Programme at Clanrye Group, where she delivers training in Personal Development, Employability and Horticulture. Combining extensive teaching experience with enthusiasm and a learner-centred approach, Helen creates an encouraging environment where learners can build confidence, develop new skills and work towards their goals.

Reflecting on her role, Helen said:

“The thing I love most about my job is undoubtedly the students that I teach because, without them, I wouldn’t be doing the job that I do. The best thing is going in every day and seeing what they achieve. Every day is different, and they bring the joy to the table.”

Speaking about receiving the award, Helen said:

“It makes me want to do things even better than I have because of the fact I have been awarded this.”

Helen's passion for teaching and her dedication to learner success have made a lasting impact on those she supports, inspiring learners and colleagues.
